White Water Kayaking and Montego Bay Overview
As if heart-pounding, white-water kayaking wasn't enough for one Montego Bay day, it's only the beginning! After meeting your driver on the pier, set off with your small group for the scenic drive along the coast to the river, approximately 60 minutes away. Your adventure begins with a short walk through the rainforest to meet your guide.
After some instructions, you and your co-paddler board your two-person kayak and enter the fast-flowing water. The swift currents carry your kayak downstream, challenging you and your partner to paddle confidently through various areas of exciting white-water rapids and picturesque river pools. You will use teamwork to paddle through the twists and turns of rushing white-water rapids. The river rapids are rated class 1 and class 2 (easy to moderate) and the river flow is rated class 3 (swift-moving water). Recent weather conditions can affect the river flow and level. The average time on the river is 90 minutes.
The river currents carry your kayak over one final cascade as you pass under an old colonial stone bridge and head towards the Caribbean Sea, where you will paddle your kayak to a private beach. Here you will have approximately 30 minutes to swim, sun or purchase a refreshment from the beach bar.
Returning to the Montego Bay area, you will make a stop for approximately 40 minutes at the Shoppes at Rose Hall, where you can shop or relax with a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. You will then have a driving orientation along the "hip strip" of Montego Bay, the most popular area with visitors.
