Things to Do in St. Lucia on a Cruise
St Lucia is a little slice of Caribbean paradise. If you really get out there and explore, it offers some breathtaking scenery, beaches and so much more.
If there is one thing you have to do in St Lucia, it’s take in the amazing scenery and that brings me to my first recommendation: the Exclusive Views of St Lucia excursion. I visited the island in 2013 and have to say the glimpses of distant lands I got were incredible. I wish I had been given more time to really appreciate them and that’s why I am suggesting this tour to you!
You will leave Castries and follow the winding road up the Morne where you’ll be greeted with a panoramic view of the harbor. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the island of Martinique! You will have various other stops on this trip to admire the natural beauty of the island including a stop at the private home of the Sonys-Stony Hill, which offers breathtaking views across Rodney Bay. All I can say is be sure your camera and phone are fully charged and in perfect working order.
My next recommendation is for something that still offers superb scenery but from a slightly different view point: A sailing trip around the town of Soufriere, which will usually tie in a relaxing catamaran journey with some time on land to explore, too. Of course, the most impressive aspect of this trip will be your first glimpse of the Pitons, which rise 2,500 feet from the seashore and have each been named a World Heritage Site. The sea-based aspect of this tour also includes Marigot Bay, and the villages of Anse La Raye and Canaries. Your land-based time offers a chance to visit Sulphur Springs, which is home to the world’s only drive-in volcano, Diamond Falls and the Botanical Gardens before heading to a local restaurant for lunch.
If you want to try something totally different during your time here, then I would recommend a rainforest excursion. What an experience! The views from the rainforest canopy are stunning, and the journey up there is just as impressive.
If a beach day sounds more like your thing, then one of the most popular beaches – which is actually protected – is Vigie Beach, which is located just north of Castries. The cruise port itself in St Lucia is very well-equipped and is packed with shops, restaurants and bars, ideal for those of you that don’t want to venture far. I recommend trying a shrimp roti if you want to grab some food. Very good and reasonably priced!
P.S. If you feel like a short walk then check out the world-famous Castries market! I will also point out that I visited on a Sunday and the majority of the market was open. A lot of people say it is closed Sunday, but not from my experience!
St. Lucia excursions are certainly trips of a lifetime and there is truly something for everyone.
