Highlights of Rome and Trastevere
See the very best of Rome, including the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. Enjoy spectacular views of Rome from Gianicolo Hills and imagine watching the chariot races at the Circus Maximus on this comprehensive half-day tour of Rome.
This Rome tour is unlike the usual big bus sightseeing tours because you'll get much better access to each site. On your minivan with a small group, you can tour the historical center of Rome in ways that big motor coaches can't access. With only seven passengers and an expert guide, you'll have an intimate experience as you get to know the wonderful city of Rome.
Your Rome tour starts with a visit to some of the most famous locations in Rome, including the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, the Spanish steps, and Piazza Navona. You will get the chance to explore each of these historic sites, as you will be able to get off the minivan and have a wander through Rome. Visit the interior of the Pantheon, learn about the legendary Trevi fountain, and why not toss a coin to make sure you'll be back in Rome? Walk around the magnificent Spanish steps and the grand Navona Square with the famous Bernini and Borromini baroque works of art.
Continue your tour of Rome with a drive around the Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. At one time, the Circus Maximus was the largest open-air arena in the world. Your guide will teach you about the races, gambling, and prizes donated by the emperors. You'll also pass the majestic Venezia square, a real hub of Rome, on your way to Trastevere.
In Trastevere, relax and reflect on the wonders of Rome that you have seen while enjoying a real Italian coffee or cappuccino. After your coffee stop, you will be ready to explore the ancient quarter with cobbled streets and charming atmosphere, where your guide will take you on a fascinating walk. To end your tour in style, you'll visit the majestic and beautiful Santa Maria in Trastevere church, most likely the first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with its facades all glittering with ancient mosaics.
This tour introduces you to Rome's most famous sights and ancient neighborhoods. Escape the big bus tours for a small group adventure to the city's best highlights.
Please Note: This tour takes place in Rome, and is only available to guests who are staying in centrally located hotels. Cruise passengers on ships docking in Civitavecchia would need to make their own way to Rome from Civitavecchia (approximately 50 miles away) at their own expense. A taxi ride takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to and from the pier each way. There is train service from nearby train stations, and the average trip takes approximately 90 minutes each way. Your cruise ship may offer a shuttle to a nearby station. Pick up is only offered for hotels within the Aurelian Walls, and guests who are staying outside of central Rome will be responsible for their own transportation (not included) to the closest pick up location within the Aurelian Walls.
