Rangitoto Island Volcanic Explorer
Rangitoto Island Volcanic Explorer
Sitting majestically 25 minutes off the Auckland coast is Rangitoto Island, which you will tour by 4WD. This unique volcanic island boasts a fascinating landscape of rugged lava crops, lush native bush and sandy coves. Rangitoto is a public reserve, managed by the Department of Conservation.
On your arrival at the island you will be met by a Rangitoto Guide and escorted to the 4WD road train for a journey of discovery. Along the way you'll learn of Rangitoto's fiery past and the amazing climate that has allowed lush growth to flourish amongst the lava on the island.
Journey through the largest Pohutukawa forest in the world, a treasured fern glen and rugged lava terrain, as you make your way to the base of the summit of Rangitoto. From there, it's a half-mile walk along a scenic boardwalk to the top. Here, you'll be rewarded with 360-degree views of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf and back to Auckland City.
Your guide will accompany you back to the road train to continue the narrated tour, taking in the western side of the island and then back to your return sailing.
