St. Kitts Rainforest Adventure

Experience the rare beauty of St Kitts' rich reservoir of biodiversity on this rainforest hike. Departing from the pier, your St. Kitts Rainforest Adventure tour takes you to a mysterious world of the lush mountain rainforest.

Your first stop is at the botanical gardens of Romney Manor, home to Caribelle Batik. Here, you will have approximately 30 minutes of free time to stroll the gardens, visit the demonstration area on Batik, take pictures, purchase a cold drink or, if you so choose, shop.

You will then make your way to nearby Wingfield Estate, at an elevation of 400 feet above sea level, and set out on a guided hike along the Wingfield forest trail. See a rainforest alive with exotic plants like heliconias, bamboo, ferns, palms and elephant ears that festoon the area. Sample some of the local fruits along the way. The area is also abundantly alive with caterpillars and colorful lizards. The hike is tailored to the interests of the group. Some groups may do more walking, going as far as the Wingfield River, where a crossing is made on rocks in ankle-deep water.

Other groups may be more interested in an in-depth, up-close look at the incredible tropical foliage and flowers, looking for beautiful songbirds and hummingbirds in the trees under the canopy of creepers and vines. These groups usually cover very little distance during their time in the rainforest. You will observe the drop in temperature and increase in moisture as you venture deeper into the forest.

After your hike, you will be returned to the pier.

Very informative guide
Our guide met us at the pier and gave us a tour on the way to the hike area. The guide was very knowledgeable about the local plants and history. We were a small and active group so he took us on a longer path which was great.

Enjoyable Day, but not what was expected.
First off, I'm not certain that we were on the right tour. When we showed up for our tour they told us it had been cancelled due to lack of participation and could we come back in two hours and participate in that tour. When I booked I was only given one time option, so I don't know where the second tour came from.

While we did enjoy the tour, it wasn't exactly what we had expected. There were more people than most reviews here stated they had and it moved at a much slower pace than we had hoped for. While we did enjoy our time in the Rainforest, I feel like we spent too much time at Romney Manor before entering the Rainforest. I'm still giving a good rating because our tour guide Hilton was great and even though we would have liked more hiking we had a good day!

St. Kitts Rainforest Adventure
Your was good. My only complaint was that we had scheduled the first tour of the day. We arrived at our meeting place in St Kitts a half hour sooner than we were supposed to to make sure we were in time. When we checked in we were told our group had been cancelled because not enough people had signed up for it. They rescheduled it for a couple hours later. It would have been nice to know that a few days sooner so that we could have slept in. We ended up going back to the ship to kill time. They knew how many people had signed up before the cruise left and could have contacted us prior to the cruise to change the time.

Great way to experience St. Kitts!
Our guide, Darnell, was great. Very professional. A native of St. Kitts, he provided lots of interesting history and background, both on the drive over and during the hike.

The hike was beautiful. Challenging, but not overly strenuous. Just right for 40-something parents and teen kids.

Afterwards, he let us experience great flavors of St. Kitts, including passion fruit drink, rum, raisin bread, coconut, and more.

Interesting and Educational
Great guide with extensive knowledge of the rainforest and vegetation. Moderate hiking up and down hills provided plenty of exercise but not exhausting.

I would schedule another tour next cruise
The tour was both adventurous and fun. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. He gave us guava bread to sample that his wife had baked and a refreshing sample of guava juice.

Super Guide
David was our guide, superior in every way. He was raised right at the edge of the rainforest, worked in the area before becoming a guide, still lives right there. He knew the area intimately, knew every plant and its uses, and at the end of the tour, provided us with fresh guava juice (prepared by him) and raisin bread (prepared by his wife), from his home right across the street.
