Rainforest Nature Walk and Swim
Rainforest Nature Walk and Swim
Set off for an adventure to El Yunque Rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the United States and part of the National Forest Service. This lush and beautiful rainforest, located in northeastern Puerto Rico, is where you will find walkways winding through the surrounding treetops. The forest comes alive with the nightly calls of coquí tree frogs when the sun goes down.
Leave the pier area after meeting your local, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who will be along to assist and teach you about the diverse vegetation and wildlife you are about to encounter. The forest system is a nature lover's wonderland with river streams, hiking trails, and breath-taking panoramic vistas.
Make a stop at El Portalito Visitors Center for a short video about the rainforest and her flora and fauna; afterwards set off to La Coca Falls for a great photo opportunity. Be amazed by the panoramic views from Yokahu Observation Tower.
Take a 20 to 30-minute nature walk that leads up to Mameyes River, a natural river pool. The Mameyes, from its headwaters to the confluence with the Rio de la Mina sub-watershed, is remote and isolated. The stream course is a mass of jumbled boulders, and numerous small waterfalls and pools. Here you will have the chance to snap some great Insta-worthy pictures, swim and cool off.
After your time in the rainforest you will be returned to the pier area and your ship, feeling refreshed, renewed and reenergized by your time spent on your journey into this peaceful place.
