Ever since the Cinque Terre villages were granted Unesco World Heritage Site status, they have been besieged by thousands of tourists each day. What to do? Head a little ways down the coast to the quiet towns of Sestri Levante and Rapallo instead!

On this full day private tour you will meet your driver who will take you to Sestri Levante for an independent visit. This quiet fishing village lies halfway between Genova and La Spezia, and was home to Hans Christian Anderson for a short time in 1835. The town is an up-and-coming hot spot among Italians and is sandwiched between the long, luxurious Baia delle Favole, (Bay of Fairy Tales) and the dinky cove of Baia del Silenzio (Bay of Silence). While here, grab photos of the pastel colored villas and explore the charming 12th century castle.

Continue on to the large resort town of Rapallo with its seaside promenade, street shopping and excellent fish restaurants. This town had its heyday before WWII, drawing Ezra Pound and D. H. Lawrence, plus many other writers, poets, and artists to its shores. Today Rapallo's harbor hosts many yachts. Explore the historical centre with its pedestrian shopping streets, enjoy a delicious seafood lunch and don't leave without visiting the Castello sul Mare (Castle-on-the-Sea). This picturesque 16th century castle was erected by the sea to help counter the frequent pirate attacks. This tour is perfect for those who enjoy the history and beauty of ancient towns without navigating the crowds and long lines.
