Enjoy a scenic drive to Portofino, where you and your English speaking guide will find the path at Via del Fondaco and start hiking up a hill, past the Church of San Sebastian to a gate constructed to keep out wild boar. Pass through the gate and continue into the woods, where the path will turn rocky and alternate between ascents and descents. Eventually you will come into a clearing and cross a landing strip platform, then make your way down the hill to the first of San Fruttuoso's 2 beaches. Here you can take a minute to walk through the restaurant's portico or continue on to the larger beach and the beautiful Gothic style San Fruttuoso Abbey.

Enjoy some free time to explore this massive seaside compound that contains the church, an open area in the center, the monk's cemetery to the east and the Doria family tombs to the west. While here, learn how the first community of devotees of the martyred Prospero, Bishop of Tarragon, came to this small bay in the 8th century with his ashes and began building the church. This compound was damaged during the Saracen raids and rebuilt in the 10th century by the Benedictines. The abbey rose to prominence in the 15th century, becoming the influential point for territorial lines, the economy, politics and the agricultural and fishing industry until the last century. Your 6 hour tour concludes with a ride back to port by motor boat through the stunning Tigullio Gulf. Skip the crowded bus tours, for a chance to experience the wild side of Portofino and the splended San Fruttuoso Abbey by booking now.
