Private Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano

Leaving from the cruise ship terminal in Naples, you will meet your private guide and driver and set off on your exploration of Sorrento, Positano, and Pompeii.

Your tour starts in Sorrento, one of the jewels of the Amalfi Coast. Be mesmerized with lush views of olive groves and vineyards, and the fragrant lemon and grapefruit trees that pepper gardens tucked into terraces of this uniquely beautiful town. Enjoy the many flavors and colors of typical products from this region, make sure to try the famous and delicious liquor made with the area's lemons called "limoncello," as your tour makes a stop at a local limoncello factory. The peninsula is situated on a tuffaceous terrace, overlooking the sea on the northern slopes of the Lattari Mountains. It seems the name "Sorrento'' is derived from the name "Sirenia," meaning sirens--the legendary creatures that the Homeric tradition handed down as a half woman half fish, who bewitched the sailors with their songs, making them wreck against the rocks.

From Sorrento, you'll drive next to Positano, the postcard-pretty town that rises along the cliff-side, the houses stacked like sun-bleached jewels above the stunning blue of the coastline. The center of the Amalfi Coast, Positano is located on the slopes of the Comune Mountains and Sant'Angelo a Tre Pizzi. Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a resort since the Roman Empire, as attested by the discovery of a villa and more recent discoveries. From the village, the many typical "scalinate" steps, come down to the beaches, the Spiaggia Grande, and the Fornillo, both within walking distance; others are La Porta, Arienzo and San Pietro Laurito, all reachable mainly by the sea. The town, which is filled with houses with a typical spherical shell, is a unique urban and architectural complex with long steps, narrow alleys and watchtowers along the coastal ridge.

You will then travel the distance from Postiano to Pompeii, the famous ancient city. Located on the plain at the eastern slopes of Vesuvius, to the right of the lower reaches of the river Sarno, Pompeii is one of the largest archaeological areas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient Roman city, buried by the sudden eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, has been brought to light in the archeological site. The rain of ash and lava and the resulting thick layer of dust have crystallized, preserving Pompeii for centuries. Brought to the surface, Pompeii is the most visited archaeological site in the world and one of the most fascinating. Here you will take a walking tour inside the ruins of Pompeii, followed by some free time to do some shopping.

Your day will end with a return by your driver to Naples and the pier area and your ship.
