Private Ancient Salt Tour

Begin your private and exclusive tour along the famous Coral Coast of Fiji that is known for its amazing shoreline. Travel to Lomawai Village, the home of salt making, to tour historical sites and witness possibly the last place in Fiji where sea salt is being created in the traditional way.

After meeting your local representative at the pier area, depart in your comfortable, private transportation and make your way to Lomawai Village on a panoramic and scenic drive lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Arrive to the village and learn Lomawai is part of the district of Wai and over the years has enjoyed the income generated from preserving the sacred art of salt making. The people of Lomawai believe that without the mangroves, they cannot produce salt because the trees act as a filter for the saltwater which comes from the sea. Despite the consequences of climate change, the area has ecological importance and is one of the remaining villages in Fiji that is still producing salt.

The process of sea salt extraction and purification is natural and Lomawai salt has been tested and the result showed that it does not contain minerals and properties that is found in iodized salt available in stores. The villagers say to put a small pinch of this salt under your tongue at night to relieve stress and give a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, the culture of this ancient art is slowly fading away as the area youth prefer modern jobs which earn better money and soon this tradition may be lost to time.

Continue your day and next make your way to the Vuda Boatshed as you drive through the town of Nadi. Arrive to the Vuda Marina and have your lunch at the Boatshed Restaurant, this is where the locals go to eat and for good reason. This popular dining venue for locals and yachties offers delicious choices from the Head Chef who has created a simple, yet delicious selection of menu items for your enjoyment. Fresh salads, tasty sandwiches and delicious pastas and pizzas are party of a wide range of main course items to suit all palettes.

After your delicious lunch you will make your way back to the port and pier area. This private tour is a wonderful history lesson as well as a scenic and tasty way to spend your day while in Port Denarau, Fiji, satisfying history buffs as well as foodies.
