Enjoy a unique expedition around the island in a Land Rover Discovery from a different point of view, full of traditional and authentic images and experiences. Your professional driver and guide will take you to the first stop at the picturesque small port of St. Ioannis, an area named after a small church of great historical significance dedicated to Saint John ("Ioannis" in Greek).
First, head to Ornos Beach, one of the trendiest and most popular beaches in the Aegean Sea before passing the Mykonos' airport with panoramic views of the runway on your way to Ano Mera Village. The drive to Ano Mera winds through the island's agricultural and livestock raising areas, before arriving at one of the oldest, most quaint, and quiet villages found on Mykonos. Here at Ano Mera Village, you will have an abundance of photo opportunities as locals live their everyday lives without the interruption of tourists.
Very near to Ano Mera is the impressive monastery of Panagia Tourliani. The main church was built in 1542 and restored in 1767; here the church houses a superb collection of icons made by a Cretan painter, holy vessels, and vestments. The bell-tower and marble fountain, in the courtyard of the monastery, are a must-see for anyone traveling in Mykonos. You will have the opportunity to join a guide for a walk through the monastery chambers, if you so choose (entrance fee of 2 EUR per person is not included).
After leaving the monastery, ride over to a Mykonian traditional farm for a light snack or lunch (approximately 20 EUR per person, not included). The light lunch will consist of bread, tomatoes, kopanisti (salty, spicy cheese), cucumbers, and poor man's caviar (chopped black olives), all while enjoying traditional raki (sweetened, often anise-flavored, alcoholic drink).
Upon leaving the traditional farm, head over to Kalo Livadi, Kalafati, and Aghia Anna, the most distant and beautiful beaches in all of Mykonos. Here you will have an opportunity to take pictures while stretching out and getting your feet wet before heading back towards Mykonos town. Along the way, stop for even more amazing photos as the panoramic views of Mykonos are laid out in front of you.
This tour covers a lot of ground in a Land Rover Discovery, taking you to the furthest, most remote areas of Mykonos.
