Full Day Tour to Obidos, Batalha, Nazare and Fatima

The day begins with a visit to Fatima, where the focal point of its history revolves around three children-Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta-who encountered an apparition of a lady dressed in white while tending to their sheep. On the 13th of every month from May to October, she appeared to the children. The final apparition was witnessed by 70,000 pilgrims, who observed the Miracle of the Sun. Our Lady of Fatima conveyed a message comprising three secrets: the initial one depicted a vision of Hell, emphasizing the consequences of souls straying without prayer; the second foretold the onset of the Second World War; and the enigmatic third secret is safeguarded by the Vatican.

Your initial stop is the Sanctuary, housing the Basilica where the tombs of Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia rest. It encompasses the Chapel of Apparitions, the core of the Sanctuary, and the new Church of the Holy Trinity, ranking as the world's fourth-largest by capacity. You'll have some free time to explore the area or, if a mass is underway, you might choose to attend part of it.

Next, you'll journey to Batalha to explore another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Monastery of Batalha. Established in 1386 A.D., this Gothic masterpiece boasts intricately crafted stained-glass windows.

Continuing the tour, you'll arrive at the charming and vibrant fishing town of Nazare, where you'll delve into its rich legends and traditions. Once leaving Nazare, weather and time permitting, there's an opportunity to visit Sitio. Here, you can revel in the breathtaking views overlooking Nazare and its stunning beaches.

The final destination is Obidos, an approximately one-hour drive through the scenic Portuguese countryside. Perched atop a hill and surrounded by a fortified wall, this town traces its origins back to the era of Roman occupation. The castle stands as a beautifully preserved testament to medieval architecture, echoed throughout its streets, squares, walls, and charming rustic white houses. Throughout the tour, you'll delve into the diverse and culturally rich local traditions of the town.
