Journey to the Mekong Delta

Your epic Ho Chi Minh City tour begins with a drive through the emerald landscape of South Vietnam, leading to the provincial town of My Tho. As your professional guide will share, this fertile region in the Mekong Delta region is considered the breadbasket of Vietnam's rising population.

Upon reaching the Vinh Trang Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist Temple in Vietnam, you can explore its grand facilities. Finished in 1850, the temple sits on five manicured acres filled with fruit trees. Take a moment to go inside, where beautiful large bronze statues of Buddha (Amitabha and Gautama) reside. There's also an interesting life-size statue of the benevolent Jade Emperor you shouldn't miss.

From there, you'll be whisked away for a pleasurable boat ride on the popular Tien Giang River. Feel time slow down to a customary maritime pace. Sightseeing on the water where residents fish, swim, and transport tourists is very relaxing.

Along this route, you'll visit local homes, orchards, and a honeybee farm prior to taking a sampan boat ride on the palm-shade creeks. A regional lunch and beverages will be served. Additionally, you can sample the seasonal fruit and honey tea during a performance of South Vietnamese singing. The brave may wish to try snake wine made from cobra venom, a traditional Vietnamese medicine.

Your experienced guide will elaborate on the many places you see throughout this unique adventure. Book this Ho Chi Minh City tour today for an unforgettable Vietnam experience at a low price.

Please Note: Western-style food is available upon request at the time of booking for an additional fee to be paid on the day of your tour (not included, approximately $10 US). Passengers will be granted a Vietnam visa by the cruise line. Some of the cruise lines include the visa within the cruise package. However, if a visa was not included in your cruise package, you pay may purchase one directly onboard. The cost can be up to $50 US per person, depending on the cruise line.

A wonderful adventure with Thai on the Mekong.
We did this tour in February 2024. It was the best tour of our 14 day cruise with Oceania Riveria. We were contacted by WhatsApp promptly on arrival with the name of our guide and where he would meet us. Our guide Thai (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly) was engaging, personable and very interesting. There were only 4 of us on the tour (one other couple from the ship and my husband and myself) which was such an added bonus. The tour was immaculately organised from start to finish.
We had a small private junk to take us out on the Mekong river which was such a wonderful experience. We experienced genuine Vietnamese traditional singing with fruit tasting; honey products and snake wine, a fantastic trip on a sandpan, and a delicious lunch of elephant ear fish. We also had a visit to the Chua Vinh Trang pagoda and temple which was interesting Overall, a fantastic day.

Interesting tour
We enjoyed our small group of four plus the tour guide and driver. An excellent Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant. A look at a small village and local customs.

Journey to the Mekong Delta
My wife and I traveled to 11 countries in 55 days and we both agree this was one of our favorite excursions. Our guide was early. We traveled thru the busy streets of Saigon and as hectic as the traffic was this added to the experience of our day .First stop were the Buddhist Temples and our guide explained the different statues and their meanings . We then were off to the Mekong , we traveled by gunboat to a honeybee farm ,had fresh honey, fruit and also entertained with music . Next treated to a horse drawn wagon ride, not on the original itinerary . This was so we could spend more time riding with the locals on small wooden boats . Next to a small candy making facility where we sampled hand made candies . We then boarded our gunboat for the return to our car . All of this and then a buffet meal of local foods that was very tasty . Last but not least our driver and guide were friendly ,knowledgeable and professional . This was one of our top picks of our extended holiday.

Great Day out to see Mekong
We were collected at the ship on time and transported in a clean, nice vehicle to the Mekong. Our guide was very caring and considerate and very knowledgeable with Vietnamese history and was able to answer all our questions. He was a very pleasant young man and even though it was very hot, we had a wonderful day.

Day trip to Mekong River
We had a day trip to the Mekong from our ship, The Ovation of the Seas. We were picked up at the correct time from the wharf and taken to the river via the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. Our guide had good English and was great to deal with. We had a ride over the river in a large boat and then a walk around an island which included some snacks and singing from the locals and then a small boat ride up a small backwater which was crowded with similar small boats. I have a bad knee and our guide was wonderful and helpful getting in and out of the transport and so caring about our safety.
We had lunch which was ok but probably not really our taste, but that was secondary to the great day out.
Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone.Be warned it is very hot in this part of Vietnam so dress accordingly.

An interesting day in the Delta!
It was great to met by our guide (Hai? Spelling?) right on the pier. A young, knowledgable man, very proud of his country and culture.
We were fortunate to have a small group of four.
An opportunity to see how the locals really live, an amazing cultural experience.

The Best Guide & Tour
Our guide, Tom, was outstanding. We had only 4 people, from Australia and US in our group. Tom based the tour on our level of interest and our physical abilities. Although we are older, we are fit and able to do more than most. He was organized and upbeat. He went that extra mile to expose us to local foods and experiences. He even read our palms as we waited in traffic. We had many laughs and were able to talk about our lifestyles and experiences with each other. It was our best tour of the trip.
