History of Cozumel Walking Tour
Located just off the shores of Mexico lies Cozumel, a largely undeveloped island full of Mayan ruins, a robust mangrove forest and some of the best diving spots in the world. A leisurely, 45-minute ferry ride can take you between downtown Cozumel and Playa del Carmen on the mainland.
During this informative walking tour, you and your small group will explore San Miguel's beautiful downtown waterfront while learning fascinating facts about the culture and history of Cozumel.
Your local, knowledgeable professional guide will take you to see the Plaza of the 2 Cultures with its Mayan ruins and tribute to the fertility goddess Ixchel. In the downtown Main Plaza, you will hear the stories behind the Mexican flag monument as well as the Cozumel clock tower and the first city hall.
Along the way, you will stop for a brief history lesson in tequila making with a tequila tasting. Expand on your culinary exposure with a mouthwatering lunch at a local and popular venue to re-energize.
Following the tour, you will have some free time to explore the downtown area on your own and shop for souvenirs to remember your day in Cozumel.

Our guide showed us different monuments and landmarks that showed the Mayan and Spanish influence in Cozumel. It was very informative, and a nice respite from the more commercial tours and boat rides, etc.
Our walk took us closer to town, where we visited a beautiful tequila factory that was almost fully renovated. Again, very nice!
Our tour finished at a lovely small family owned restaurant, where we had a delicious lunch and great conversation with our guide. When we were finished, she called a cab for us to take us back to the ship.
Since we were the only ones on the tour, it was like strolling with a friend!
The only downside that our stay in Cozumel was only 8-hours. We still had fun. If you're planning staying a few days in Cozumel and need a tour guide to show you around the town, Carlos is you your guy.
