History of Cozumel Walking Tour

Located just off the shores of Mexico lies Cozumel, a largely undeveloped island full of Mayan ruins, a robust mangrove forest and some of the best diving spots in the world. A leisurely, 45-minute ferry ride can take you between downtown Cozumel and Playa del Carmen on the mainland.

During this informative walking tour, you and your small group will explore San Miguel's beautiful downtown waterfront while learning fascinating facts about the culture and history of Cozumel.

Your local, knowledgeable professional guide will take you to see the Plaza of the 2 Cultures with its Mayan ruins and tribute to the fertility goddess Ixchel. In the downtown Main Plaza, you will hear the stories behind the Mexican flag monument as well as the Cozumel clock tower and the first city hall.

Along the way, you will stop for a brief history lesson in tequila making with a tequila tasting. Expand on your culinary exposure with a mouthwatering lunch at a local and popular venue to re-energize.

Following the tour, you will have some free time to explore the downtown area on your own and shop for souvenirs to remember your day in Cozumel.

Lovely walking tour by Gerry. He spoke English well and he gave us many historical observations. Very interesting. A bit hot though -can’t be helped .

Hidden gem of Cozumel!
We were a little surprised at the meeting point, which was in front of the air force base outside of town. When our guide met us, she told us that there was another couple booked. After waiting about 10-15 minutes, we decided to go on without them.
Our guide showed us different monuments and landmarks that showed the Mayan and Spanish influence in Cozumel. It was very informative, and a nice respite from the more commercial tours and boat rides, etc.
Our walk took us closer to town, where we visited a beautiful tequila factory that was almost fully renovated. Again, very nice!
Our tour finished at a lovely small family owned restaurant, where we had a delicious lunch and great conversation with our guide. When we were finished, she called a cab for us to take us back to the ship.
Since we were the only ones on the tour, it was like strolling with a friend!

A good day.
Excellent!!! As it happened I was the lone customer on the tour. The guide was very understanding and we enjoyed a beautiful day. She was informative, gracious and accommodating. A very enjoyable day.

Excellent tour guide!
My sons and I did the walking tour on New Year’s Day. Tony was our guide and he was excellent! Fun, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. We very much appreciated the small group size (only 5 of us in total). Only complaint was the restaurant we were expecting to visit was closed for the holiday, which even Tony wasn’t aware of. Big disappointment for me…I had been looking forward to the food. Other than that, this was one of the highlights of our cruise.

Superb Tour
This was absolutely one of the best tours I have ever taken and I have been on almost 50 cruises. Saw a part of Cozumel with which I was unfamiliar. Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was extremely accommodating. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch in a small local family owned and operated restuarant.

August 03, 2022 Cozumel Mexico Walking Tour
Our tour guide, Carlos was very kind to us during our visit in San Miguel Cozumel. He showed us beautiful statues of the history of the Mayans. Also, we got to experience a tequila taste which was great. We also went shopping for souvenirs and finished our tour with lunch at a restaurant. We look forward in coming back to Cozumel again in the near future.

The only downside that our stay in Cozumel was only 8-hours. We still had fun. If you're planning staying a few days in Cozumel and need a tour guide to show you around the town, Carlos is you your guy.

Awesome
So apparently I was the only one to sign up for this tour on this day, but Julio, my tour guide was awesome. It was wonderful to hear the history of a city I have been to several times before but not really taken a deep dive into. The little streetside cafe for lunch was also just what I was looking for, away from the touristy side of town. It was just what I was looking for!

We had been to Cozemel before but never saw it thru the eyes of our tour guide Ruy. Very informative and very nice guy. Took us all over the place. We really enjoyed this tour and Ruy. Loved the little bar he took us to for lunch. All nice things on this tour.
