Girona, Figueres and Dali
See two of the highlights of northeastern Catalonia at your own pace. Departing from Barcelona's city center, your hostess will pass out guidebooks so you can plan your day. Your first stop will be in Girona, the provincial capital. A professional local guide will lead you as you explore the city on a walking tour that visits the Gothic cathedral and the old Jewish Quarter. View sacred objects from the Cathedral Treasury and see the Arab baths. After your tour you will be given free time to explore further and have lunch on your own.
You will then drive to Figueres, the birthplace of artist Salvador Dali. During your free time, explore the museum that he built. Admission is included in your tour price. Dali is also buried here, alongside the church where he was christened. The art on exhibit ranges from paintings to whole rooms, including the "Rainy Taxi," the "Sala Mae West," and Dali's crypt. Your tour also includes entrance to the Joies Dali, a separate two floor exhibit that houses the jewel collection, and drawings and paintings on paper that Dali made in designing these jewels.
At the appointed time, meet your transportation for the two-hour drive back to Barcelona, arriving in the city center in the evening.
Please Note: Entrance to the Girona Cathedral is not included in the price of this tour (approximately 7 EUR per person). Although your hostess on the bus is not a trained guide, she will be able to offer suggestions on sightseeing, shopping and dining in Girona and Figueres. Your guidebook will also include discounts at places of interest, restaurants and shops. Your tour departs from and returns to the Placa Catalunya area. The placa is the city center and the place where the old city (Gothic Quarter and Raval) and the 19th-century-built Eixample meet. Some of the city's most important streets and avenues meet in Placa Catalunya: Passeig de Gracia, La Rambla, Portal de l'Angel and Ronda Universitat.
