Curacao Island and Flavors

Vivid, sherbet-colored buildings showcase Dutch colonial architecture not to be found anywhere else outside of the Netherlands. Your tour of Curacao Island, rich with culture and natural beauty, begins with a scenic drive through the Otrabanda residential area of Willemstad, the capital. The area's impressive history has earned it designation as a UNESCO World Heritage City. You will view St. Anna Bay, an inlet that bisects the capital city, dividing it into two notable regions. At the west entrance of the bay stands the Riffort, which was built to protect the city in 1828 and is now filled with restaurants and shops. Pass by the Queen Emma Bridge, a floating pontoon bridge known for its beauty and function as a moveable bridge that allows vessels to enter the bay. Cross the Queen Juliana Bridge, which offers a colorful view of Willemstad's unique pastel colored buildings.

Your first stop is the plantation house Chobolobo, where you can see how authentic Blue Curacao Liquor is made while enjoying some tasty samples. This is the home of the authentic Curacao Liqueur, named Curacao of Curacao to differentiate it from other brands of the Curacao Liqueur that are not original.

Next, the tour takes you to the east side of the island through the Spanish Water area, where views of the cliffs along Caracas Bay will take your breath away. Caracas Bay provides superb anchorage for large and small boats with the picturesque Table Mountain and Spanish Water in the background. It is headquarters for water sports, boating, sailing, fishing and the Curacao yacht club. This is where the Spaniards discovered Curacao in 1499.

Continuing your Curacao food tour, you'll make your way to Mambo Beach, now that you have worked up an appetite. Enjoy this beautiful beach and the water as you experience a local culinary lunch. Your culinary experiences in Curacao will enrich you with the island's cuisine, which is a flavorful blend of Dutch and Indonesian, with hints of other international fare mixed in. Relax and savor the true taste of the island, with a choice between stewed beef or chicken, white rice, Spanish rice, beans and fries. Your meal will also include a house salad, plantains and the freshest seasonal vegetables.

Discover Mambo Beach Boulevard, a unique concept for the island that combines shopping, dining, entertainment, and the best beach Curacao Island offers. Have approximately one hour to stroll this area after your lunch concludes.

The tour concludes with a pass through the Scharloo area, a historic Jewish neighborhood with colorful architecture marked with unique elegance. For those looking to discover a true taste of the island, this tour is exactly what your senses long for.

Curacao Tour
Tour was on a Sunday, but was the best of the three excursions that we went on.Tour was on a tour bus and driver/guide was the best. Tour had two off the bus locations and several photo stops. Stops were at the distillery and beach-side. At the beach location could have previously selected the beach, lunch or aquarium options. We had excellent lunch.

Curaao Island and Flavors
My husband, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and had a wonderful sense of humor. We were impressed with the beautiful architecture and colors of the buildings in Curaao. The samples at the factory were delicious and it was interesting to hear how the liqueur was made. Lunch at the restaurant at Mambo beach was very good. We would definitely recommend this excursion!

Great value!
We were very happy with this excursion. Our guide was fun and informative. We went to the Curacao factory and we actually saw how it was made instead of seeing a video. (Nice gift shop, too). The best was lunch at Mambo beach. Food was excellent and it was the Island flavors! The restaurant overlooked a beautiful beach with many great shops in the area. Exceeded expectations!

Fun day!
Such a fun day exploring Curacao. Our guide was very entertaining and so knowledgeable about the island. Since we were there on a Sunday we were not able to get into the Curacao liquor plant. Our guide provided us with samples at another stop we made. The lunch provided on the beach was delicious. The time we were left to fill after eating was a bit long although we enjoyed walking around the area.

Good tour with delicious lunch
The tour was interesting, with a stop at the Curacao distillery which included time for tasting. We saw some of the beauty of the island, and dropped off some people for a beach stop. We went to a nearby restaurant for an authentic island meal, which was good. We didn't quite understand that the included beverage was non-alcoholic - but that was OK. We sampled some Curacao-based cocktails anyway! The guide was professional and informative; we enjoyed our visit to the island.

Nice sampling of Curacao
This tour was enjoyable. The Blue Curacao samples were tasty. I was saddened that the Queen Emma bridge was damaged by Hurricanes. There is a smaller bridge still in tact that is similar but smaller. Mambo Beach was nice. The lunch was a bit confusing. The waiter at the restaurant initially provided me a full menu which had more variety, but wasn't included, so it would have been extra. I informed him that I was interested in the meal included with the tour. Although the choices were very limited, the food itself was delicious.

Awesome
I highly recommend this tour! Our tour guide was great! The best part was the lunch...a choice of chicken or beef. I had the chicken my daughter had the beef. Both were excellent.

The restaurant was right on the beach...very pretty!
