Canal Cruise and Skip the Line Rijksmuseum

During your one hour canal cruise, you will get the best view of the many canal houses and buildings from the water. Construction on the first canal began in 1613 and would lead to the construction of the world famous Canal Belt, the system of canals that circle or form concentric belts around the city. Much of the 17th-century canal ring area was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011. Along the main canals, there are more than 1500 monumental buildings. Many buildings date from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the so-called Golden Age. Trade flourished and this is reflected in the elaborately decorated facades. These homes are still for the lucky few.

As we motor through the old port, you will see yet another side of Amsterdam, with its medieval buildings, grand 17th-century houses, the spires of many churches, and many of its most famous sights. The cruise portion narration is pre-recorded. There are no stops on the cruise, which returns to the original beginning point at the end of the tour.

Your program also includes a skip-the-line ticket for the Rijksmuseum. One of many great museums in Amsterdam, the museums collection is made up of paintings, photos, models, furniture, carvings and many more forms of art from around the world. Highlights of the collection include Vermeer's The Milkmaid and Rembrandt's The Night Watch. Staff on the canal cruise can direct you to the museum from the boat dock. Time at the museum is at your leisure.

Please Note: This is a self-guided tour to explore at your leisure. The Rijksmuseum takes at least 2 hours to complete and the canal cruise lasts for an hour. The Rijksmuseum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The canal cruise operates on a seasonal schedule and departs every 20 minutes.
