Best of The Danube Valley

This day trip takes visitors from Vienna to Wachau, a picturesque valley along the Danube known for its excellent wine. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to medieval castles, impressive monasteries and the breathtaking landscape of Austria.

Tour the area on comfortable buses, traveling from Vienna to Krems, a pretty town on the banks of the Danube River. In the winter months you'll take a short break in Krems, and in the summertime you'll pass Krems and go to Durnstein directly, where you will take a boat ride to Melk.

You'll continue on to Durnstein to see the hillside ruins of Durnstein castle on this tour. This is where the English King Richard the Lionheart was held captive.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you travel through the countryside to Melk. Lush vineyards shape the landscape of the Danube Valley and reach right down to the banks of the Danube River. Small hidden villages come into view between the gentle hills and green woods.

Arrive at Melk where the bus takes you to the nearby Benedictine Abbey. This impressive baroque building was awarded the prize "Best Historic Destination of the World" together with Wachau in 2008. See the magnificent marble hall, the precious abbey library and the church with its unique frescoes on a guided tour.
