Alaskan Forest and Beach Hike
Alaskan Forest and Beach Hike
A very exclusive small group tour awaits, where you can better connect with yourself, those around you and the environments we find ourselves in. A hike into the rain forest finds peace and serenity as you make your way to an undeveloped ocean beach accessible only by foot or boat, where you can beach comb.
This is a great way to temporarily unplug from the hustle and bustle of crowds and to remind yourself of the importance of taking a breath, slowing down a little, and relaxing into just being where you are without worrying about what comes next. This tour is for those of you who would like to get out for a two-mile round-trip hike on a gravel trail, enjoy some conversation with your local host and other trekkers, and spend some time beachcombing along the ocean.
Your local, friendly, and very knowledgeable guide will greet you at the pier area and then you are off for a 30-minute, scenic ride to the north trailhead. The first mile is mostly downhill after a flat muskeg start, and winds through a rain forest of western red cedar, Sitka spruce, and hemlock, eventually leading to a sprawling, undeveloped, rural beach only reached by foot or boat. Various waterfowl and eagles can often be seen here, and sometimes deer, seals, sea lions, and martens. Listen closely, and at times you may even hear the exhale from the spout of a whale; they are that close!
Soon you will cross a wooden bridge over a small creek, where you should be able to see and hear the ocean meeting the wave-polished stone beach. The trail will dump you right between two outcroppings of jagged rocks, where, if the tide is low, you can walk out onto the beach, which opens wide to the left. Stop, take a breath, and soak in your surroundings as you have a look around, beach comb, or join in for some tai-chi on the beach.
You will then retrace your steps and hike back up the same trail, ascending 700 feet. Your transportation is waiting where you began, and you will then be taken back to the cruise ship pier area in town. Your group is kept to a maximum amount of 7 guests, allowing for a very intimate, personal, and one-on-one experience with your guide.
This truly is like no other experience you may get to have while in Alaska; don't miss this amazing and wonderful opportunity to breathe fresh air, smell the scent of the rain forest, and stop to listen to just how quiet the seclusion of nature can be. Book today, as space is very limited and will always sell out fast!
Please Note: There are no facilities at the trailhead, along the trail, or at the beach. This is a rural hike. This is a leave-no-trace excursion, including no littering or food left behind. This is also a tobacco-free, drug-free, and alcohol-free excursion. This tour can only accommodate a maximum of 6 adults per tour or 7 people maximum with any ratio of adults and children.
