Located in southeast Alaska and along the coast, Icy Strait Point gives you a peek inside the beautiful and diverse Alaskan wildlife. Our Icy Strait shore tours give you the chance to get up close and personal with incredible wildlife.
Alaska-Sized Adventure
Shore Excursions Group takes you on a journey in the Icy Strait to see the bears, fish, bald eagles, and whales that call Icy Strait home. Seeing the humpback whales on our whale-watching tours or spying on the native bears of Chichagof Island will take your breath away. Point Adolphus, in particular, is world-famous for its concentration of humpback whales and is located about 5 miles from the southern side of Icy Strait. Expect guaranteed whale sightings in these nutrient-rich waters during the summer. Chichagof Island's Spasski River Valley is equally renowned for having one of the highest densities of coastal brown bears anywhere. The island is roughly 25 miles from the port town of Hoonah. Bear sightings are also more frequent during the summer, so plan your trip accordingly. Just don't forget to bring your cameras, binoculars, and waterproof apparel!
Culture and History of Hoonah
We also invite you to learn about one of Icy Strait's native peoples, the Huna Tlingit, and the town of Hoonah. The Tlingit people have lived in Southeast Alaska for many centuries in what is now Glacier Bay National Park. Advancing glaciers forced them to relocate to modern-day Hoonah in 1754. In 1912, the Hoonah Packing Company built the first cannery in the area, and it has become quite a tourist attraction since then. The restored cannery turned museum shop offers fine jewelry, warm fashions, canned sockeye salmon, and plenty more. Embrace the rich culture of the Tlingit while on one of their canoe tours. From their connection to nature to their tribal dance, the spirit of their people is something to behold. This Alaskan cruise port town has so much to offer.
Locally Sourced Cuisine
While in Icy Strait, we also give you the chance to enjoy some incredible and famous Icy Strait seafood. Discover Alaska's Wildest Kitchen, a hands-on tasting session like no other and hosted by an Alaskan master wilderness chef. Imagine eating delectable halibut harvested directly from the waters of Icy Strait. If wild and cruise line food is not your thing, there are delicious restaurants in the area. The Crab House, The Cookhouse, and Duck Point Smokehouse are excellent dining options. They offer innovative dishes and use nothing but the freshest local ingredients.
