Things To Do in Corfu on a Cruise

Home » Things To Do in Corfu on a Cruise

Corfu, Greece, is a beautiful destination that offers a comfortable mix of old and new. There’s a little bit of something for everyone!

If you want to head off and do your own thing, then I would definitely recommend that you take a stroll through Corfu Old Town. At first, you may think it doesn’t look like much, and to be honest it really doesn’t. But once you venture through the archway and into the heart of it, you are in for a real treat!

There are many little stores selling everything from the traditional souvenirs to locally produced soaps and other beauty products. Quaint little cafes and restaurants are easily found (and you must take some time to try one – you could literally sit and watch the world go by for hours!). There are a lot of local delicacies being served here and the seafood is very fresh. I stopped at a café at the entrance to the Old Town and the food was very nice and reasonably priced.

If you would prefer to see a little more of Corfu island, then I would recommend seeing Achilleion Palace, Paleokastritsa and Corfu Town. This tour also includes the Old Town, so in my opinion, you get the best of both worlds — the chance to explore the immediate area and the opportunity to go further and see what else this beautiful destination has to offer.

You’ll visit some great sites including the Monastery of the Virgin, the traditional village of Gastouri (where you will visit the Achilleion Palace) and a wonderful walking tour of the Old Town where you will also see the Old Venetian Fortress which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You’ll not only get a chance to soak up some of Greece’s rich history, but also to also take in the incredible views. The Greek Isles are truly stunning, and during the summer months you can see for miles from certain viewpoints. The waters are clear, the food is delicious, and for those of you that like shopping, the locally produced goods are very high quality. It’s a place that has a little bit of everything rolled into one.

If you want to visit Corfu and do nothing other than relax, then I would suggest you visit the small island of Vidos that sits at the mouth of the port of Corfu.

Vidos is less than a mile in diameter, but it is well worth visiting. There are some wonderful beache — the best being just a 10-minute walk from the jetty. The food at the Menios Taverna also comes highly recommended, and the restaurant has a reputation for serving only the freshest ingredients. The ferry from Corfu Town leaves every hour and is located at the old port opposite the BP petrol station. The cost is roughly 2 euro.

Enjoy!
