Inside a Cruiser’s Head in Cozumel
What’s it really like to be a cruiser visiting Cozumel, Mexico? What will you be thinking or doing while you’re there? We’re going to try and jump inside a cruiser’s head in Cozumel.
What’s up first?
The first thing you’ll see is the ginormous Mexican flag waving in the sea breeze as if to say hello! Cozumel is one of the most welcoming and friendly cities in the Caribbean, and that flag seems to play the role of greeter. Trust me, you can’t miss seeing it.
What’s next?
This kind of depends on where your ship docks. Due to its popularity, parking cruise ships can sometimes be as tricky as finding a parking place at the mall on a rainy Saturday. When you walk off the ship, take in the sights and friendly locals — but don’t get stuck in the pier area. There’s so much more to see and do beyond the pier gates. Explore it – and really do Cozumel. There are lots of Cozumel shore excursions to take advantage of on and off this island (you’re only a short ferry boat ride away from the mainland). Diving, ancient ruins or just a good beach day are all options in Cozumel.
What to do?
No longer that simple, sleepy fishing village, Cozumel offers shopping, scuba, snorkeling, cooking, water sports, drinking and eating. The options are as varied as the dollar spot at Target — and just as much fun to choose from. You can see Cozumel like the tourist you are, or you can see it like a local. Cozumel is one of the safest ports in the Caribbean, so take the path less traveled here.
What will you leave with?
Possibly a sunburn or hangover. Possibly a locally made souvenir or three T-shirts for $10. Possibly some chocolate with pepper in it or the prettiest poncho ever made. You’ll definitely leave with memories that won’t ever be forgotten of experiences and stories you’ll tell for years. You’ll leave with less stress and feel more relaxed and refreshed than when you sailed into port.
No matter if you’re a first-timer to Cozumel or you’ve been there enough to wear a “Locals Only” T-shirt — there’s just something magical about this place.
this is quite the viewpoint you got there!
