Roseau Valley Treasures
Roseau Valley Treasures
Plan to get wet and have tons of fun while at it - as you explore Dominica in this All-In-One snorkeling, swimming and hiking tour! Your first stop will be a visit to one of the island's Roseau Valley Treasures: Champagne Reef. It is one of the most unique snorkeling areas in the Eastern Caribbean. After a short five-minute walk to the end of the stony beach, you will gear up in the included snorkel gear. From the shore, walk in and begin a very different underwater experience. You will actually be swimming in bubbles, like you were in a giant aquarium or glass of champagne. The stop at Champagne is for approximately one hour.
Next, you will drive to a natural delight, where part of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was filmed. You will have the chance to experience the warm (volcano-heated) water and swim in the cold water at Titou Gorge. To enjoy the gorge, you would have to take the short swim (about two minutes) up a cave-like area (you do not swim underwater). The swim is about 100 feet and the water is about 10 feet deep at its deepest point, but it's only about waist high at the middle. There is a small waterfall one can swim to, if the water is not flowing too heavily. You will also have the option to climb the waterfall (five feet) to get to another waterfall. Guests choosing to do this must be very athletic, as you have to jump about six feet out into the water on your way back down to avoid a ledge in the water. This part is not for everyone and is optional even if you can make the jump. There is a 5-7 minute walk to Titou Gorge. The trail is rocky and gets a little slippery when wet. We provide swim belts to all our guests. Time at Titou is approximately 45 minutes.
You will also visit Trafalgar Falls, which is actually two waterfalls in the same area. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from the parking area and up a few steps. The walk is not too difficult but can be a bit challenging if one has any major problems with their backs, legs or hips, or if one may become short of breath due to a lung or heart condition. After the walk, you will reach a platform where you can view the waterfalls and take photos. Climbing to the base of the waterfall should be avoided because of the danger involved. Approximate time at Trafalgar is 45 minutes.
A drive will then take you through the Botanical Gardens, where you will see a glorious gallery of different plants, trees and flowers that are native to or grow on the island. Let your guide know if you want to take a quick detour/photo stop to Morne Bruce for a picture of Roseau from the top of a hill.
Please note: Crowds are to be expected. The order of your tour may change based on crowds or traffic flow the day of the tour. All tour times are approximate based on these factors.
