Your journey begins with a scenic two-hour ride that lets you sit back and enjoy the changing scenes of Mexico's beautiful landscapes before arriving at Chichen Itza. Considered to be one of the best Mayan archaeological sites on the Yucatan Peninsula; a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chichen Itza's El Castillo was named one of the New Seven Wonders of World in 2007 after a worldwide vote.

Upon your arrival, your English-speaking guide will inform you all about the Mayan-Toltec civilization and how the religious and ceremonial site was also the urban center of the empire from 750 A.D. to 1200. Several ancient structures are scattered throughout the historic complex's six square miles. They include the Warriors' Temple; El Castillo and the circular observatory called El Caracol. Among the highlights of your two-hour walking tour is the great pyramid of Kulkulcan now named El Castillo offering insight into the Mayans' impressive knowledge of astronomy. The temple has 365 steps, one for each day of the year.

While here, you'll discover the city's water source, natural sinkholes (cenotes) revealing pools of groundwater. You can take a stroll along a hand-carved stairway that leads you to the breathtakingly beautiful Cenote Ik Kil, where you can plunge into the fresh water and cool off.

If you are a history buff, this tour is for you!
